New Community Pool Underway!
As many of you see every time you drive down Fisher Road and past Grosse Pointe South high school, the long-awaited new pool project is finally underway.
But calling it just a pool might be a misnomer: This facility will not only house a state-of-the-art 12-lane pool and diving well, but will encompass other features to enhance both the GP South campus, as well as the community as a whole.
It will be home to a new, full-sized gymnasium. There are boys and girls locker rooms. In the mezzanine you will find meeting rooms, spectator seating for swimming and diving activities, and a concession area. Downstairs, the building will be home to a new near-5000 sq. ft. fitness facility open to all students.
Friends of the Pool have committed to raise a total of $320,000 to make sure this pool has everything it will need. We have a great head start, but now it’s time for everyone in the Grosse Pointe community that wants to leave a legacy to pitch in and do so.
How can you help? Make a financial commitment to the project, big or small. If you can, choose one of the designated premium gifting levels—the tax-deductible gift is payable over a five-year period—and be recognized for years to come.
The last pool on the campus was built in 1928; this one will open 80 years and nearly three generations later. Let’s make this pool one that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
Sincerely,
Bob Weiland
